I’ve got something different for Flashback Friday this week. This is a poem I wrote some time ago. It’s not my typical style of poetry (I don’t usually rhyme), but I always liked this one. It makes me smile. I hope you like it, too.
Happiness Is
A breath of Fall in August air…
A glint of sun on lovers’ hair…
A little boy’s blanket lair…
And you…with me.
A tattered bookmark holding place…
A weary runner’s finished race…
Recognition on a new friend’s face…
And you…with me.
Buttered popcorn in the den…
Precious words, “Remember when?”…
First few whiskers on his chin…
And you…with me.
Lazy Saturdays spent in bed…
Kissing baby’s newborn head…
All the love words that you’ve said…
And you…with me.
Holding hands in the park that day…
Dancing with the treetop’s sway…
That it will always be this way…
You…with me.
