Going Back to School

That’s right! After a three year break from homework and deadlines, I’m going back to school!  I’m super excited about it, because it’s in support of my pursuit of writing. I’m going to Tennessee Wesleyan University for a BFA in Creative Writing!

I have spent a large portion of my adult life in school. For those who don’t know my back story, I got married and started a family very, very young. I didn’t decide to go to college until I was 24 years old. At the time I started, I had three young children, and, by the time I finished, I was a mom of four. Because I had so many little ones at home, I could only take online and evening classes. It took me four years to get a two year degree. I was extremely proud of that degree, though. I worked hard for it! When I got divorced, I went back to school for a nursing degree. I met my wonderful husband during my first year of nursing school and we got married that summer. I really didn’t like nursing. After getting married, I decided not to go back for my second year, stay at home with the kids, and pursue my passion for writing.

All of that has led me here! I have the opportunity to go to school to study English and Creative Writing, and I am so excited. I’m excited to learn and grow as a writer and become better at what I do. I went for orientation this past Friday, and now I’m really looking forward to classes starting this Fall!

In the meantime, I’m hard at work writing my second novel. I’m hoping to have the majority of my first draft written before school starts. So, with that said . . . I better get back to writing!
